The building’s story
At the far end of the interior courtyard, there is a dock. The kayaks wait on their rack, paddles are picked up by the pool, and you slip onto the Lachine Canal a few steps from home. Few Montreal addresses give you this feeling of living on the water in the middle of the city.
In the early 2000s, the land told a different story: abandoned factories along the canal, on rue Saint-Ambroise. Groupe Alta-Socam bought them in 2001, decontaminated the site and launched Quai des Éclusiers, a four-phase project designed by architects Michelange Panzini and Garo Jamgotchian. The 4300 led the way in 2004 and the 4250 followed in 2005. Together, these first two phases bring 209 units over six storeys.
Inside, the concrete structure stays in sight. Concrete ceilings rise 9 to 10 feet, up to 11 feet in some units, and some units have floor-to-ceiling windows. Most have a private terrace, and on the top floors some terraces feel like an extra room for the summer. According to our information, units range from 524 sq ft to 2,180 sq ft.
Shared life happens downstairs: a heated indoor pool, a sauna, a gym, an interior courtyard with its fountain, an indoor garage, storage lockers and bike racks. A building superintendent looks after the place.
Outside is Saint-Henri. The Lachine Canal bike path runs right past the door and leads east to Atwater Market. The cafés and restaurants of rue Notre-Dame Ouest are a few streets away, Place-Saint-Henri station is a 10-minute walk, and Lionel-Groulx, where the Green and Orange lines meet, is 17 minutes away.
Quai des Éclusiers speaks to people who want the exposed concrete and generous volumes of a contemporary loft, with the pool, the garage and the canal as a bonus.
