Les Lofts Impérial Phase 5

Picture rue Saint-Antoine in the early 20th century: Imperial Tobacco workers head into the factory for their shift, in the heart of Saint-Henri. The building is still standing at number 3700. Since 2010, it has been home to phase 5 of Les Lofts Impérial.

The former Imperial Tobacco complex was converted into lofts in phases, starting in 2008. At 3700 rue Saint-Antoine Ouest, the conversion delivered 141 lofts over four storeys in 2010. The factory's concrete is still the backbone of the place.

Inside, your eye rises to concrete ceilings of 12 to 14 feet depending on the unit. Windows reach up to 8 feet, and several lofts make the most of that height with a mezzanine, the kind of space that becomes a work nook or extra storage. Units range from 396 sq ft to 1,122 sq ft, from open studios to two-bedroom corner lofts. On the ground floor, some open onto a private terrace facing the inner courtyard.

The complex's eight phases share a sports centre with a weight room, an indoor basketball court and a studio. An indoor garage rounds things out.

Outside is Saint-Henri. Lionel-Groulx metro, where the Green and Orange lines meet, and Place-Saint-Henri station are each a 9-minute walk away. Atwater Market, the cafés and restaurants of rue Notre-Dame Ouest and the Lachine Canal bike path are all within walking distance.
