The building’s story
For decades, cables, wire and electronic equipment were made here. In 1941, at its peak, the Northern Electric plant employed 4,686 people, an industrial city a short walk from the Lachine Canal. The arched concrete ceilings that covered its workshops are still there. Today they cover lofts.
The complex grew in stages from 1913 to 1948 until it filled the whole block bounded by Richmond, Richardson, Shearer and Saint-Patrick streets. Architect William John Carmichael is associated with the original construction, Joseph Onésime Despatie with some of the later phases. In 2003, the El-Ad group bought the building and first turned it into offices. In 2014, two residential projects took shape: Phase 1, inside the factory itself, and Phase 2, a new tower added to the complex. 238 units in all.
At 1730 rue Saint-Patrick, Phase 1 takes up floors 6 to 8 of the factory: 103 lofts converted by Elad Canada and Groupe IBI-CHBA, formerly Cardinal Hardy, with interiors by HUMÀ design. Picture your eye following the curve of an arched concrete ceiling, 14 feet up, between brick walls and large factory windows. On the 8th floor, most penthouses span three levels, with a mezzanine, a rooftop room and a private terrace, and the living room ceiling rises to 17 feet.
At 1740, Phase 2 is a concrete and steel tower built in 2014 and registered as a condominium in 2015. Its 135 units keep the concrete exposed overhead, at 9 or 10 feet, with floor-to-ceiling windows and, at the top, two-level penthouses with private terraces. According to our information, units at Le Nordelec range from 474 sq ft to 1,951 sq ft.
Both phases share Le Nordelec's common spaces through a horizontal syndicate: a heated rooftop pool and a terrace with BBQs; an urban chalet with a lounge, a pool table and a screening room; and a gym.
Outside is Pointe-Saint-Charles. The Lachine Canal bike path runs right across the street, Atwater Market sits on the other side of the water, and rue Centre keeps its neighbourhood shops. Charlevoix metro is a 12- to 16-minute walk depending on the phase.
Le Nordelec speaks to people torn between the arched concrete of a real factory and the light of a new tower, who want the canal at the end of the street.
Every loft has a story. Le Nordelec's begins in a Pointe-Saint-Charles cable factory. Our job is to help you find the one that becomes yours. Olivier Mailloux and Amélie Flanagan, real estate brokers, follow the Pointe-Saint-Charles market closely and work with buyers and sellers across Montreal.

Your broker for this building
We know Le Nordelec.
We follow this building one listing at a time: the corner units, the floors that catch the sun, what the co-ownership fees actually cover. That’s been our specialty since 2010.
“My job isn’t to sell you this building. It’s to tell you honestly whether it’s the right one for you, or whether we should look elsewhere.”
Whether you’re comparing two buildings, ready to make an offer, or just curious what a loft looks like inside, we take the time it takes. No pressure.
