The building’s story
Ceilings of 10 to 12 feet, brick, bare concrete. That is what you find today where, in the early 1900s, a large printing house kept its presses running, on rue de Bleury in downtown Montreal.
The Southam building was designed by architects Brown & Vallance to house a printing plant. Steel, reinforced concrete and a brick facade: construction was completed in 1916 and it has stood its ground ever since. In 2012 it became a condominium of 80 lofts across 10 storeys. It doesn't imitate old. It is old.
Inside, no two lofts are alike. According to our information, units range from 518 sq. ft. to 3,565 sq. ft., with brick walls, exposed concrete ceilings, large windows and polished concrete or hardwood floors depending on the unit. Some have a private terrace. Picture your eye travelling up to 12 feet above a long worktable.
Day to day, the building keeps things simple: three elevators, a concierge, a fitness room, a multipurpose room and a shared rooftop terrace.
Step outside and you are downtown at its liveliest. The Quartier des spectacles and the Palais des congrès are close by, Old Montreal and Chinatown a few blocks away. Square-Victoria-OACI metro is a 6-minute walk, Place-d'Armes station 7 minutes.
The Southam speaks to people who want to live in the heart of the city, in real industrial volumes, without giving up restaurants, venues and the metro. For a first purchase or a pied-à-terre alike.
Every loft has a story. The Southam's starts in a printing house. Our job is to help you find the one that becomes yours. Olivier Mailloux and Amélie Flanagan, real estate brokers, follow the downtown loft market closely and work with buyers and sellers across Montreal.

Your broker for this building
We know Southam.
We follow this building one listing at a time: the corner units, the floors that catch the sun, what the co-ownership fees actually cover. That’s been our specialty since 2010.
“My job isn’t to sell you this building. It’s to tell you honestly whether it’s the right one for you, or whether we should look elsewhere.”
Whether you’re comparing two buildings, ready to make an offer, or just curious what a loft looks like inside, we take the time it takes. No pressure.
