The building’s story

Chocolate used to be made here. On rue William, in the heart of Griffintown, the former Walter M. Lowney Company of Canada factory has kept its brick walls, its wooden beams and its large factory windows. Since 2006, 69 lofts have shared its five storeys: this is Lowney 2.

The building dates from 1905, when Griffintown lived to the rhythm of its factories and the Lachine Canal. It was transformed as part of the Lowney project, launched by Prével in 2004, one of the first residential developments to bring the neighbourhood back to life. The industrial structure stayed put. You can still see it overhead.

Picture the light coming through factory windows of up to 8 feet, and your eyes rising to the original wooden beams, 10 or 11 feet up depending on the floor, and up to 13 feet in some units. The brick is often left exposed and the floors are wood. On the ground floor, some units open onto a private terrace. According to our information, units range from 551 sq ft to 982 sq ft.

Residents have access to rooftop terraces with barbecues and an outdoor pool, the city as a backdrop, an urban chalet with a fireplace, a gym with a swimming lane and a workshop. An indoor garage completes the picture.

Outside is Griffintown. The Lachine Canal bike path is a few streets away, Old Montreal and downtown are within walking distance, and the École de technologie supérieure is next door. Bonaventure station is a 10-minute walk, and Square-Victoria–OACI is 11 minutes away.

Lowney 2 speaks to people who want a true brick-and-timber loft steps from downtown, to live in or as a first investment.

Every loft has a story. Lowney 2's begins in a Griffintown chocolate factory. Our job is to help you find the one that becomes yours. Olivier Mailloux and Amélie Flanagan, real estate brokers, follow the Griffintown loft market closely and work with buyers and sellers across Montreal.

Your broker for this building

We know Lowney 2.

We follow this building one listing at a time: the corner units, the floors that catch the sun, what the co-ownership fees actually cover. That’s been our specialty since 2010.

“My job isn’t to sell you this building. It’s to tell you honestly whether it’s the right one for you, or whether we should look elsewhere.”

Whether you’re comparing two buildings, ready to make an offer, or just curious what a loft looks like inside, we take the time it takes. No pressure.
