The building’s story
Hemlock beams, brick and stone walls, wood ceilings that rise to 17 feet. At Lofts Desjardins, the old factory still shows in every room.
The building went up in 1896 and 1897 for the Watson Foster Co., a wallpaper maker, at the corner of boulevard Pie-IX and rue Ontario. According to McGill University's industrial architecture inventory, it was designed by architect Alexander Cowper Hutchison. In 2000, the factory was converted into 37 lofts.
Volumes change from one unit to the next. Depending on the unit, ceilings range from 10 to 17 feet, and a few lofts reach 20 feet. Several have their bedroom on a mezzanine, some a skylight or a private rooftop terrace. According to our information, units range from 1,086 sq ft to 3,055 sq ft.
Some units have their own door on rue Desjardins, a residential street quieter than the boulevard. Out back, a shared garden and a room to store bikes.
Promenade Ontario starts at the corner, with its cafés and restaurants. Maisonneuve Market and Place Valois are a few minutes' walk away, and Pie-IX metro, on the Green line, is 13 minutes up the boulevard.
Lofts Desjardins suits people who want to live in a real 19th-century industrial building, with wood, brick and plenty of height.
Every loft has a story. Lofts Desjardins' begins in 1897, at the corner of Pie-IX and Ontario. Our job is to help you find the one that becomes yours. Your broker for this building
We know Les Lofts Desjardins.
We follow this building one listing at a time: the corner units, the floors that catch the sun, what the co-ownership fees actually cover. That’s been our specialty since 2010.
“My job isn’t to sell you this building. It’s to tell you honestly whether it’s the right one for you, or whether we should look elsewhere.”
Whether you’re comparing two buildings, ready to make an offer, or just curious what a loft looks like inside, we take the time it takes. No pressure.
