The building’s story
In the early twentieth century, licorice was made on rue de Rouen. Picture the production lines running behind these brick walls, and the 200 or so workers who once worked here. The name La Confiserie is no slogan: it is the building's story.
According to the condominium's guide, the National Licorice Company of Brooklyn set up in Maisonneuve in 1907 and had the factory built in 1908, to plans by architect Charles A. Reeves. Enlarged in 1946 and again in 1956, it passed to Hershey in 1977 and closed its doors in 2008. The following year, the factory became La Confiserie.
The 2009 conversion, by Atelier Chaloub Beaulieu Architectes, kept the original brick and the large industrial windows. The former factory holds 60 lofts on three storeys. Ceilings rise from 9 to 12 feet depending on the unit, brick still shows on some walls, and light comes in through windows sized for a workshop. According to our information, units range from 590 sq ft to 1,236 sq ft, and a few open onto a private terrace facing the courtyard.
Because there is a courtyard. The factory forms the head of a group of four buildings set around a landscaped inner courtyard, with underground parking beneath it. An elevator serves the floors.
Outside is everyday Maisonneuve. Promenade Ontario and its cafés, Place Valois, Maisonneuve Market a few streets away, Olympic Park a little further up. Pie-IX metro, on the Green line, is an 11-minute walk.
La Confiserie speaks to people who want to live in a true heritage building, with its brick and its height, without giving up the calm of a courtyard.
Every loft has a story. La Confiserie's begins with licorice, in 1908. Our job is to help you find the one that becomes yours. Olivier Mailloux and Amélie Flanagan, real estate brokers, follow the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve loft market closely and work with buyers and sellers across Montreal.

Your broker for this building
We know La Confiserie.
We follow this building one listing at a time: the corner units, the floors that catch the sun, what the co-ownership fees actually cover. That’s been our specialty since 2010.
“My job isn’t to sell you this building. It’s to tell you honestly whether it’s the right one for you, or whether we should look elsewhere.”
Whether you’re comparing two buildings, ready to make an offer, or just curious what a loft looks like inside, we take the time it takes. No pressure.
