The building’s story

In 1854, John Redpath set up his sugar refinery on the Lachine Canal, a short walk from the Saint-Gabriel locks. It would keep running until 1979. Today, on the same site, people talk about lofts, boat slips and a pool. The brick stayed.

In the early 2000s, developer Gueymard began converting the complex into condominiums, to plans by Groupe Cardinal Hardy. The work moved forward one building at a time. Phase I, at 1655 rue St-Patrick, took its current form in 2005: the steel and concrete structure was reinforced, the brick masonry restored, and 16 lofts settled into the top two floors, above an indoor garage.

Only sixteen lofts, from 609 sq ft to 1,267 sq ft. That is what gives the building its quiet. Picture the light coming through tall windows, under ceilings of 10.5 to 12 feet depending on the floor. On the top floor, some windows run from floor to ceiling. There are no projecting balconies here, just Juliet railings in front of the windows, which leave the brick facade intact.

This building is also where the shared heart of the Redpath lives. On the 5th floor, the pool, the gym and the saunas are shared with the whole complex. At ground level, there is the inner courtyard and its gardens, the security desk, and on the Bassin des Prêtres, the marina's boat slips.

Outside is Pointe-Saint-Charles. The Lachine Canal bike path runs past the door, Atwater Market sits across the water, and the cafés of rue du Centre are a few streets away. Charlevoix metro is a 17-minute walk.

Phase I speaks to people who want the volume of an industrial loft and the calm of a small building, with the pool under the same roof.

Every loft has a story. The Redpath's begins in a sugar refinery on the canal. Our job is to help you find the one that becomes yours. Olivier Mailloux and Amélie Flanagan, real estate brokers, follow the Pointe-Saint-Charles loft market closely and work with buyers and sellers across Montreal.

Your broker for this building

We know Le Redpath – Phase I.

We follow this building one listing at a time: the corner units, the floors that catch the sun, what the co-ownership fees actually cover. That’s been our specialty since 2010.

“My job isn’t to sell you this building. It’s to tell you honestly whether it’s the right one for you, or whether we should look elsewhere.”

Whether you’re comparing two buildings, ready to make an offer, or just curious what a loft looks like inside, we take the time it takes. No pressure.
