The building’s story
On September 21, 1931, students walked through the doors of Thomas D'Arcy McGee school for the first time, at the foot of Mount Royal. The classrooms have found a new purpose, but the tall pointed-arch windows are still there, and many still look out on the mountain.
Designed by architect Irénée Vautrin and built in 1931, the building housed, according to the archives of the Congrégation de Notre-Dame, Montreal's first English-language Catholic high school. The school closed in 1992, and the building became a condominium in 1998. It lies within the Mount Royal Heritage Site.
Picture a former classroom turned loft: ceilings of 11 to 14 feet depending on the floor, oversized pointed-arch windows, wood floors and, in several units, a mezzanine. Some ground-floor units unfold over two levels, with a private entrance from the courtyard. Based on our information, the lofts range from 690 sq. ft. to 1,780 sq. ft., in a concrete structure that keeps things quiet from one floor to the next.
On the roof, a shared terrace opens onto Mount Royal and downtown. The building has an elevator, indoor and outdoor parking, storage lockers and an inner courtyard.
Avenue des Pins links the Plateau and downtown. The Musée des Hospitalières de l'Hôtel-Dieu is practically next door, Schwartz's is less than ten minutes on foot, and both Jeanne-Mance Park and the McGill University campus are about twelve minutes away. The 144 bus runs along avenue des Pins, and Place-des-Arts metro is about a 12-minute walk.
Le D'Arcy McGee speaks to people who want the volume of a loft in a heritage building, between the mountain and boulevard Saint-Laurent.
Every loft has a story. The story of Le D'Arcy McGee begins in 1931, in a school at the foot of Mount Royal. Our job is to help you find the one that becomes yours. Olivier Mailloux and Amélie Flanagan, real estate brokers, follow the Plateau Mont-Royal loft market closely and work with buyers and sellers across Montreal.

Your broker for this building
We know Le D'Arcy McGee.
We follow this building one listing at a time: the corner units, the floors that catch the sun, what the co-ownership fees actually cover. That’s been our specialty since 2010.
“My job isn’t to sell you this building. It’s to tell you honestly whether it’s the right one for you, or whether we should look elsewhere.”
Whether you’re comparing two buildings, ready to make an offer, or just curious what a loft looks like inside, we take the time it takes. No pressure.
